Health & safety
Kin Sauna - Health & safety briefing
Sauna
• Keep sessions short (around 10–15 minutes), stay hydrated and leave immediately if you feel dizzy, faint or unwell.
• The wood-burning stove, sauna rocks, flue and surrounding heat shield are extremely hot. Please keep your distance and do not touch, lean against or place any items near the heater or flue at any time.
Cold plunge
• Enter slowly and control your breathing, keep immersions short, and never plunge alone. Cold water causes an involuntary gasp/cold-shock response.
• The cold plunge tubs are located outside the sauna. Please take care on wet ground when moving between the sauna and the cold plunge, particularly in cold or wet weather.
The risks are real: heat can cause fainting, overheating and heat illness; cold-water immersion can cause cold shock and places strain on the heart. Both can be dangerous and, in rare cases, fatal.
Do not take part: if you are unwell, under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or if any of the conditions below apply to you.
Alternate cold and hot sensibly, listen to your body and stop if anything feels wrong. Ask a member of staff if you're unsure. A member of staff is on hand throughout your session, notify them immediately in an emergency.
Sauna and cold-water use may not be suitable if any of the following apply to you. If any of these apply, please consult your GP before booking:
• Pregnancy
• Heart or cardiovascular conditions, including a recent heart attack or stroke, an irregular heartbeat or arterial disease
• High or low blood pressure
• Epilepsy or a history of seizures
• Asthma or other breathing conditions
• Recent surgery, an open wound or an unhealed injury
• Acute illness, fever or infection
• Prone to dizziness or fainting
• Circulatory problems or sensitivity to cold (e.g. Raynaud’s)
• Taking medications
• Any other condition for which heat exposure or cold-water immersion has been advised against.
